An original screenplay dated February 6, 1985 for the 1986 film starring Sean Connery, whose copy this may have been. Written by Gregory Widen and Peter Bellwood & Larry Ferguson.
Released in 1986 by Twentieth Century-Fox, Highlander was directed by Russell Mulcahy and produced by Peter S. Davis and William N. Panzer. The film starred Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery, Roxanne Hart, Clancy Brown, Beatie Edney, Alan North, Sheila Gish, Jon Polito, and Celia Imrie.
Bound with metal pins in black, heavy stock paper covers with die-cut window in front revealing title inside. Pages numbered [1]-119 are primarily white with a dozen or so pink pages interspersed throughout, the latter being revision (replacement) pages dated 25.3.85 (March 25, 1985). Print shop page in rear with Scripts Unlimited logo (printed in London). The screenplay exhibits only minor wear from use.
Handwritten notes to title page indicate that this screenplay copy may have belonged to Sean Connery himself, as there are four, short handwritten lines near the top right corner which have been blacked out by felt-tip marker but that, on closer inspection of the original penned impressions scratched out and left on the page behind, reveal the following: "S. Connery / ________ [probably a telephone number or an address] / Marbella / Spain." Sean Connery, who was living in Marbella, Spain at the time, played the part of Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez. All dialogue for Ramirez is underlined with red pen throughout the script. There are also marks and short notes (all one or two words each) made at various Ramirez dialogue points, including notes such as "See Rus" (presumably referring to director Russell Mulcahy) and "See Greg" (presumably referring to writer Gregory Widen). There are also numerous notations of the word "double" or "DBL" next to Ramirez movement or action sequences (referring to the use of a stunt double). A total of 21 pages contain underlining or other marks. While the evidence certainly points to this script having been issued to Sean Connery, it was acquired with no provenance, and none can be offered.
Although the production company on the title page has a Los Angeles address, the script was printed in England where the film was shot. A quite unique piece of cult-fantasy film history having very likely belonged to one of film's most endearing legends.
